Deb McMann won a Top Ten Award with her 1934 Plymouth 2-door coupe at the Rocky Mountain Show and Shine that was held July 29th, 2017. Other members of the club that attended the show were Brian and Barb Boutin, Greg Garson, Doug and Geri Gordon, Bill and Deb Larratt, Bruce and Chris Semeniuk.
Bruce and Chris Semeniuk attended the Peach City Beach Cruise that was held in Penticton June 23 to 25th, 2017. They took their 1972 Olds Cutlass which they purchased last spring. The car won second place in the category “1970’s Stock”.
Bruce and Chris Semeniuk, Bill and Deb Larratt, and Murray Fleming and Wendy Davidson attended the 2017 Super Run in Saskatoon that was held on Aug 3 to 6th, 2017. They travelled from Red Deer to Saskatoon on Thursday, and attended the Hospitality Night that was hosted by the Saskatoon Draggins Rod and Custom Club. The event was held at the club’s shop and it was very informative to learn how they ran their club and managed the projects in their large and impressive shop.
On Friday, they toured Rob Morrison’s garage and were impressed with the very exclusive FoMoCo collection.
Next, a trip was made out to the SIR Raceway for the Vintage Drag races.
There were just under four hundred cars at the show held at Prairieland Park on Saturday. It was a hot day and the event drew numerous spectators.
Saturday and Sunday mornings began with a $3 breakfast of pancakes and sausage.
A dinner and dance was held on Saturday evening.
The awards were handed out late on Sunday afternoon, and two members of the Sylvan Lake Custom and Classics car club received awards. Bill and Deb Larratt won Best Pick-up Truck with their 1951 Chevrolet.
Murray Fleming won Executive Committee’s Choice award with his 1939 Ford.
The Super Run returns to Red Deer next year, and club members should plan to attend this event in 2018.
The annual Radium Show and Shine was held on September 17th, 2016. Four members of the Sylvan Lake Customs and Classics car club attended the show with their vehicles, while other club members attended as spectators.
The trip to Radium for the club members traveling with their vehicles began on Friday morning in Penhold at 7:30 a.m. Bill and Deb Larratt, Bruce and Chris Semeniuk, Murray Fleming and Wendy Davidson traveled to Radium together — just in case anybody happened to break down. Fortunately, the only required stops were for breakfast in Cochrane and gas at Dead Man’s Flats.
Neighbours of Bruce and Chris’s (Dave and Linda in their 1964 Chev Impala) joined the cavalcade in Dead Man’s Flats, and the four vehicles traveled to Radium in beautiful sunshine.
Club members enjoyed watching the display of vehicles up and down the streets of Radium on Friday afternoon and evening. Burn outs galore (aided by laying down bleach) in front of the Apple Tree Motel kept spectators cheering and entertained.
Saturday morning was warm (14 degrees C), and the members of the Sylvan Lake Customs and Classics parked together at the driving range of The Springs Golf Course. The following members registered their vehicles in the show:
Murray Fleming and Wendy Davidson
Larry and Judy Komstead
Bill and Deb Larratt
Bruck and Chris Semeniuk
Once the vehicles were parked and shined up, the members enjoyed a buffet breakfast at the golf course club house.
The following members of the Sylvan Lake Customs and Classics attended the show as spectators:
Doug and Jeri Gordon
Val and Audrey Hilker
Colin and Debra McMann
The Radium show always attracts a great variety of vehicles, and this year was no different.
Approximately 1,000 vehicles registered for this event.
The following pictures showcase some of the unique entries in the 2016 show:
If anyone wants additional pictures of cars at the show — just contact Murray Fleming — he has another 200 pictures…..
The weather held for most of the day at the show, and members enjoyed a fun day.
The drive home on Sunday morning was a real treat as the trees were in full autumn regalia.
The only thing better than the beauty of the fall foliage was the ice cream at the stop off in Cochrane.
