The annual Radium Show and Shine was held on September 17th, 2016. Four members of the Sylvan Lake Customs and Classics car club attended the show with their vehicles, while other club members attended as spectators.
The trip to Radium for the club members traveling with their vehicles began on Friday morning in Penhold at 7:30 a.m. Bill and Deb Larratt, Bruce and Chris Semeniuk, Murray Fleming and Wendy Davidson traveled to Radium together — just in case anybody happened to break down. Fortunately, the only required stops were for breakfast in Cochrane and gas at Dead Man’s Flats.
Neighbours of Bruce and Chris’s (Dave and Linda in their 1964 Chev Impala) joined the cavalcade in Dead Man’s Flats, and the four vehicles traveled to Radium in beautiful sunshine.
Club members enjoyed watching the display of vehicles up and down the streets of Radium on Friday afternoon and evening. Burn outs galore (aided by laying down bleach) in front of the Apple Tree Motel kept spectators cheering and entertained.
Saturday morning was warm (14 degrees C), and the members of the Sylvan Lake Customs and Classics parked together at the driving range of The Springs Golf Course. The following members registered their vehicles in the show:
- Murray Fleming and Wendy Davidson
- Larry and Judy Komstead
- Bill and Deb Larratt
- Bruck and Chris Semeniuk
Once the vehicles were parked and shined up, the members enjoyed a buffet breakfast at the golf course club house.
The following members of the Sylvan Lake Customs and Classics attended the show as spectators:
- Doug and Jeri Gordon
- Val and Audrey Hilker
- Colin and Debra McMann
- Noel Bower
The Radium show always attracts a great variety of vehicles, and this year was no different.
Approximately 1,000 vehicles registered for this event.

The weather held for most of the day at the show, and members enjoyed a fun day.
The drive home on Sunday morning was a real treat as the trees were in full autumn regalia.
The only thing better than the beauty of the fall foliage was the ice cream at the stop off in Cochrane.
