Fall Colours Provide Great Background for Radium Show and Shine

The annual Radium Show and Shine was held on September 17th, 2016. Four members of the Sylvan Lake Customs and Classics car club attended the show with their vehicles, while other club members attended as spectators.

The trip to Radium for the club members traveling with their vehicles began on Friday morning in Penhold at 7:30 a.m.  Bill and Deb Larratt, Bruce and Chris Semeniuk, Murray Fleming and Wendy Davidson traveled to Radium together  — just in case anybody happened to break down.   Fortunately, the only required stops were for breakfast in Cochrane and gas at Dead Man’s Flats.

Neighbours of Bruce and Chris’s (Dave and Linda in their 1964 Chev Impala) joined the cavalcade in Dead Man’s Flats, and the four vehicles traveled to Radium in beautiful sunshine.

Club members enjoyed watching the display of vehicles up and down the streets of Radium on Friday afternoon and evening.  Burn outs galore (aided by laying down bleach)  in front of the Apple Tree Motel kept spectators cheering and entertained.

Saturday morning was warm (14 degrees C), and the members of the Sylvan Lake Customs and Classics parked together at the driving range of The Springs Golf Course.  The following members registered their vehicles in the show:

  • Murray Fleming and Wendy Davidson
  • Larry and Judy Komstead
  • Bill and Deb Larratt
  • Bruck and Chris Semeniuk

Once the vehicles were parked and shined up, the members enjoyed a buffet breakfast at the golf course club house.

The Radium show always attracts a great variety of vehicles, and this year was no different.

Approximately 1,000 vehicles registered for this event.

The following pictures showcase some of the unique entries in the 2016 show:

The weather held for most of the day at the show, and members enjoyed a fun day.

The drive home on Sunday morning was a real treat as the trees were in full autumn regalia.

The only thing better than the beauty of the fall foliage was the ice cream at the stop off in Cochrane.

The award for the most unusual vehicle was given to the vehicle in the picture to the left.

The car show began with a pancake breakfast that was enjoyed by over 450 people.  The huge serving included two pancakes, two eggs, two sausages, ham, and lots of strawberries, whip cream and syrup.   Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it —  and certainly, nobody left hungry.

Despite the cool weather, the car show attracted a total of 88 cars.

After the Gull Lake Show and Shine, several club members cruised to Olds to briefly attend an informal car show and enjoy a midday lunch / supper.
